Proximity to Goods Transportation Arteries in Riverside County
Are communities of color disproportionately at risk for negative health effects of diesel exhaust?  Housing locations place residents at risk.  Nearly 350,000 Riverside County residents live within a ½ mile or less of a major highway, including roughly 40,000 children under the age of 5. The cancer risk from diesel soot and other toxic air pollutants increased 2 percent in Riverside County between 1998 and 2005, a period in which the regional risk dropped by 8 percent.
